GardeningKnowing some of the methods of gardening is not enough to create your own garden. You might know how to properly use aquaponics or conventional gardening, but what is the point if you are unsure if it will work for your desired final product? In other words, just because you know how a method works does not mean that method will apply to every yard or specific garden type. Some of these common types are butterfly, container, demonstration, vegetables & herbs, organic, and water gardens.

Fruit, Vegetable, and Herb Garden
Is there anything more delicious than growing your own fresh food in your yard? While many people like to grow some of their own food, it is important to know where and when it can be grown. Be aware of certain pests and insects in your surrounding and know the best ways to fight them while ensuring the quality of your food.
Butterfly Garden
These gardens are perfect if you want to attract more butterflies to your yard. They are all about having plants that provide water, shelter, and nectar through the developing stages of a butterflies life and after. While these can be beautiful to create and maintain, it is not always possible due to the area you live in.

Container Garden
This type of garden is best when there is not a lot of space in your yard. These containers can typically be placed on a deck, patio, windowsill, table, etc. While it is an easy and practical way to grow plants, the area they are placed in and the material of the container can be the difference between a healthy and a dead plant. Additionally, you need to remember to use an appropriate size (usually 2-3 times the plant size) as well as the correct soil.
Demonstration Garden
This type of garden is perhaps the most common seen in commercial landscapes or surrounding a home. This technique is typically showcased as large flower beds that add beauty to the ambiance without the tangible value that vegetable or butterfly gardens may provide. It can be fairly simple to produce, but many magnificent demonstrations are made by professional designers and experts on certain flowers and landscapes.

Organic Garden
This type of gardening puts an emphasis on sustainability to your yard/garden without the use of artificial fertilizer or other chemicals. It accepts insects and other pests as part of the environment instead of something that must be eradicated. That being said, not everyone has an abundance of organic materials such as composting, whereas many professional landscapers have access to plenty and can provide support.
Water Garden
Water gardens are a great example of where hydroponics and aquaponics are used to create the natural greens. Here, the emphasis is on using water to grow plants and provide a shelter for small water animals. In creating an environment for both, less maintenance is required due to the relationship of plants helping to naturally clean water and animals(typically fish) providing natural fertilization to the plants. This type of garden is not only useful for sustainability but also adds a decorative touch to your yard. Consider building a pond, tadpole nursery, or other water features in your yard.
